Informal waste workers are an indispensable part of the waste value chain. On average, they collect about 20% to 30% of total plastic waste generated in India. Despite their crucial role, informal workers remain unrecognized and unsupported. The insights report identifies challenges faced by workers in the informal waste sector. Addressing these challenges enable effective approaches to waste management, leveraging the structure and system that already exist; and integrates informal workers and self-sustaining enterprises into the solution.
